You always want to keep your home clean, but now more than ever. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there are everyday steps you can take to keep your home clean. For cleaning and disinfecting advice, continue on.
When cleaning and disinfecting your home, you should wear disposable gloves. To clean the hard surfaces of your home, such as countertops, cabinets, and doorknobs, use soap and water. Make sure you are cleaning the high touch surfaces in your home, which include sinks, faucets, toilets, keyboards, phones, desks, handles, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, and tables.
Once a surface is cleaned, it is time to disinfect it. To disinfect hard surfaces in your home, use an EPA-registered household disinfectant. Follow the instructions on the label to make sure you are using the product safely and correctly. If you have diluted household bleach solutions, you may use these if they are appropriate for the surface you are intending to clean. Check the label to be sure.
Don’t forget to clean the soft-touch surfaces in your home. These surfaces include rugs, carpets, and drapes. To clean these surfaces, use soap and water or appropriate cleaners. If you can, launder these items frequently. If you cannot launder the items, use an EPA-registered household disinfectant.
In today’s digital age, we use electronics often. Make sure you and your family are cleaning your electronics frequently. Tablets, touch screens, keyboards, and remote controls should be properly cared for with proper cleaning and disinfecting products. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific products. If there are no specific cleaning and disinfecting instructions, use alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70 percent alcohol. Let your electronics dry thoroughly before use.
